It’s Friday, which means it’s time to get personal. On Fridays, #21daysofbestbehavior will publish a personal take on our rule of the week from one of our very own. This week, Courtney Hendricks, our Creative Director, will tell us what “Don’t Be An A**hole” means to her.
While singing along in my car, it’s not often that I find myself disagreeing with Beatles lyrics. I mean, Penny Lane IS in my ears and in my eyes.
Listening to “Help,” I’m all on-board when the fab four sings, “when I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody’s help in any way.” This is definitely true – ask my mother.
Where I vary in opinion is with the next line; “But now these days are gone and I’m not so self-assured.”
Now that those days ARE gone and I find myself getting older and (hopefully) wiser, I’m more confident and know that I don’t always have the best answer. And I’m self-assured enough to be humble and appreciative when somebody else has a better solution – making us all look good. Especially benefitting the client we’re working with.
In our office, it’s not about my idea – it’s about the best idea. It’s all about our client. Everyone in the office has to leave their ego at the door… or… because we work in a mobile environment – just be respectful, work together for the best possible outcome, and don’t be an asshole.
In the wise words of John Lennon,
“All you need is love.” And some damn good concepts.
